Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ page). Below, we have tried to answer the most common questions visitors to our Web site may have. If you find that your question is not answered on this page, please e-mail us.

Do you offer printed maps?

The Digital Map Store specializes in high quality PDF maps and does not offer printed versions.  However, using Adobe Reader (download here for free), you should be able to use your computer on screen or print portions. We strongly recommend version 6.0 or higher because it has improved visual quality and better page-view printing ability. You can also bring the PDF to commercial printers if you like (provided that you are not doing so to resell the maps).  The Digital Map Store does not provide technical support for Adobe products.

What data is used in maps from The Digital Map Store?

Much of the data we use comes from public sources such as the US Census Bureau, which we combine with our internal mapping tools to produce our maps.  We also have compiled and enhanced a lot of data ourselves, resulting in unique value. ZIP Code data changes frequently, so we have chosen to resell such maps from a commercial source that focuses on up-to-date maps.

How can you sell ZIP Code maps for much less than other companies?

Our ZIP Code map provider updates their maps every month.  Most other companies only update their ZIP Code maps once or twice a year.  We believe a middle ground is best for our customers and so we are able to resell Maponics’ ZIP Code maps for less than half the price of our competitors. And we still provide more current maps than most other companies!

How do you decide which city points to show (on maps that have city points)?

Using a variety of public data, we have collected over 170,000 city/place locations.  By filtering these points based on population, we have intelligently designed maps that show a reasonable density of points for each map.  Of course, there can be no guarantee that any particular city will be present.

Can I resell these maps to my customers?

These maps are strictly licensed for a single user.  If you sell your copy to any other individual or organization, you must delete your copy. Employees of a single organization may share copies of our maps for discussion purposes only and duplicate copies must be deleted thereafter. Where can I find out more about the Census-based map data used by The Digital Map Store?

The US Census Bureau has tons of information about how geography is defined and several tables of demographics you may find interesting. ZIP Code data is not covered there.

I want something a little customized - where can I go?

The Digital Map Store does not provide custom maps.  However, our affiliate, Maponics, does create custom maps for almost any situation. You can contact them at 800-762-5158.

Why shouldn’t I purchase mapping software and do this myself?

Learning a new software package takes money and time.  Even with hours of work, your do-it-yourself maps may not be as visually powerful as you would like.  The Digital Map Store does all the work for you and delivers excellent PDF maps right to your email.  And the price can’t be beat.  You get better maps in a shorter time and you only pay for what you need.
